Meditations
Little beasties
by the road -
Pate'd mousies, gutted toads,
Frisbee'd kitties, puppies flat,
Little birds that went kersplatt,
Bugs, whose life and death are brief,
Misshapen 'coon, no more the thief.
The hare who hopped in hazard's way,
The possum stopped, is there to stay.
The deer who paused too long to gaze,
didn't see its better days.
The armadillo can't aspire
to hold its own against my tires.
The snake who lay across the lines
bears tire imprints on its spine.
That never secret, oft whacked skunk,
exudes a final, vengeful funk.
Buzzard blessings round me flow,
as roaring down the road I go.
I give this gift to many lives,
with every wheel my motor drives.
The cycle moving through rebirth,
raises consciousness on Earth.
